The idea of going to the tip of Australia first came about four years ago, when, after a holiday on Fraser Island, John was asked, "where to next?" and his reply was a definite "Cape York!"
With that idea set, we set about about preparing for our Big Adventure. My sister Ann was just as enthusiastic as John, so her husband Bob and I felt we had little choice but to go along with the idea, tho I must admit, I often wondered if it would ever happen, and, at times have felt very nervous about embarking on such a Big Adventure!
Preparation started with some major purchases - John and I bought a Cub Supamatic Camper Trailer, and Ann and Bob bought their first ever 4WD, a Nissan Xtrail, as well as an off-road Jayco Swift van. However, after doing further research, they decided that the Xtrail wouldn't be strong enough to survive the trip, so they bought a Nissan Patrol - much to our relief! We've spent the past two years making sure we've got all the equipment we need for this adventure - I've even learnt how to reverse a trailer! - and have just spent the last weekend doing the final planning - working out the itinerary, checking what bookings and permits need to be pre-arranged and checking we've got the equipment we need. Cars are now as ready as they can be. It all sounds simple, but I'm sure there's more to be done before we leave in 8 weeks!
All I know is that in eight weeks' time, we'll be setting off on our Big Adventure! Not nervous about it any more, just getting very excited!
