The trip to Moore Park was pretty uneventful - we stopped at Townsville, Mackay and Yeppoon on our way south, stopping at caravan parks the whole way down. We had thought about using some of the many free camping areas along the way, but two things stopped us - firstly, to be sure of getting a spot at most of the free camping areas, you had to stop by 3.00 in the afternoon, as they tended to fill up very quickly; and secondly, most of them were located alongside the highway, which meant traffic (in particular truck) noise most of the night. So we opted to pay for powered sites along the way. This was our site at Mackay.
We arrived at Moore Park Beach motel early on Monday afternoon. There is a distinct advantage to having a sister who owns a motel - it was bliss to have the luxury of a motel room after 5 weeks living in the camper. But that's not why we stayed there - it was, of course to see Jan and her partner Charlie! The motel room was just a bonus!
Staying in Bundaberg meant we had to visit the Bundaberg Rum Distillery - purely because John wanted to buy some Bundie Liqueur, which can only be bought at the distillery. So we came away with a box of the stuff - not all for us, I hasten to add!
We left Jan and Charlie's on Wednesday morning - too soon, as far as we were all concerned, but we had to be home the next day and didn't want to drive too far on our last day.
On our way on Wednesday, we stopped at Buderim to catch up with some friends we'd met and worked with in Croatia, some of whom we hadn't seen since we left Croatia in 1996! It was lovely to be able to catch up with them, although, once again it wasn't a long enough visit. It did make me resolve to not leave it for another 17 years before we caught up with them again!
We stopped at Caloundra on Wednesday night, and as it was our last night, decided to stay in a cabin at the caravan park rather than stay one last night in the camper. This meant that we didn't have to set up camp, and, more importantly, pack up camp the next morning. So we were on our way fairly early on Thursday morning, getting home around lunchtime.
Thursday afternoon, Friday and this morning have all been devoted to unpacking the camper and car and trying to remove the red dust that has managed to get into just about every nook and cranny possible - and probably some I don't even know about. The car's almost back to it's original colour, and the camper's sort of getting there - tho we're reluctant to clean it too much as it's got to go in for repairs next week.
Ann and Bob arrive this afternoon for a couple of days on their way back to Ocean Grove, and my guess is that we'll be working our our next big adventure!
